How to Draw a Sycamore Tree
Draw a sycamore tree in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the leafy top.
Step 1: The leafy top
Start on the left. Draw 7 big soft bumps up and over like a rainbow. Stop on the right.
Step 2: Bumps underneath
Start where the rainbow ended. Draw 5 bumps down and back across, and stop where you began.
Step 3: The tall trunk
Start under the leaves, left of the middle. Draw a long line down and flare out. Stop. Same right.
Tip A sycamore trunk is tall and straight. Leave lots of room between the leaves and the ground.
Step 4: The ground
Draw a ground line under the trunk. Start well to the left and stop well to the right.
Step 5: Peeling bark
On the trunk draw 5 wobbly patches, one above the other, stepping from side to side.
Tip Sycamore bark peels off in patches and shows pale wood underneath.
Step 6: A big leaf
High in the leafy top draw a big leaf with 5 points. Add a stalk and a middle line.
Step 7: Two more leaves
Lower down draw 2 more leaves with 5 points, one on each side, tipping outwards.
Step 8: Seed balls
Under the leaves hang 4 round seed balls on thin stalks, 2 on each side of the trunk.
Step 9: Cream patches
Colour the 5 bark patches cream, the palest colour you have.
Step 10: Pale trunk
Colour the trunk light brown, going around the cream patches.
Step 11: Green leafy top
Colour the leafy top light green, going around the 3 big leaves.
Step 12: Dark leaves, brown balls
Go over your lines. Colour the 3 big leaves dark green and the 4 seed balls brown.
