How to Draw a Boxwood

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a boxwood in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: top of the ball.

Print

  1. Step 1: Top of the ball

Start high on your paper. Draw 7 round bumps down the right side of a ball, stopping at the bottom.

  2. Step 2: Rest of the ball

From the bottom draw 7 more bumps up the left side, stopping back at the top. Now it's a ball.

  3. Step 3: Leafy hills

Inside the ball draw 3 rows of little hill bumps: short at the top, long in the middle, short below.

  4. Step 4: The trunk

Start under the ball. Draw a finger-wide trunk that spreads out at the bottom. Stop a little way down.

  5. Step 5: The pot rim

Under the trunk draw a wide flat box for the rim of a flower pot, as wide as your hand.

  6. Step 6: The pot

Start under the rim's left end. Draw the pot down, across and back up to the rim, sides leaning in.

  7. Step 7: Pot stripe

Start halfway down the left side of the pot. Draw a line across to the right side for a stripe.

  8. Step 8: The table

Draw a long straight line along the bottom of the pot, from far left to far right, for the table.

  9. Step 9: Green ball

Colour the whole ball leaf green, right to the bumpy edge.

  10. Step 10: Brown trunk

Colour the trunk a wood brown.

  11. Step 11: Ginger pot

Colour the pot and its rim ginger brown. Go over your lines and your boxwood is done!
