How to Draw a Surf Wave
Draw a surf wave in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big wave.
Step 1: The big wave
Start low on the left. Draw a slide up, curl it over like a C, down to the bottom right.
Tip Think of a big C lying on its back: the top curls over.
Step 2: White foam
Start on the front of the curl. Draw little cloud bumps along the lip, stopping on the back slope.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Low on the front of the wave draw 2 big egg eyes. Add big black dots with white shines.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile. Add a small flat oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Spray
Above the curl draw 3 small teardrops flying up, with the pointy ends on top.
Step 6: Inside the curl
Inside the hollow under the lip draw one small rainbow, starting and stopping just clear of the lines.
Step 7: Sea and ripples
Draw a flat sea line from each side of the wave out to the edge. Add 3 wavy ripples below.
Step 8: The sun
In the top-left corner draw a round sun with 8 short rays around it.
Step 9: Yellow sun, blue spray
Go over your lines, then colour the sun yellow and the spray drops sky blue.
Step 10: White foam, pink cheeks
Go over the foam with a white crayon so it stays bright. Colour the cheeks pink.
Step 11: Blue water
Colour the wave and sea blue around the foam and cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Ready to ride!
