How to Draw Mars
Draw Mars in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the planet.
Step 1: The planet
In the middle, draw a big round planet that fills most of the page. Leave the corners free.
Tip The face goes on it, so make it big.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Below the planet's middle, draw 2 big egg eyes, a little apart, each with a black dot and shine.
Step 3: Big smile
Leave a little gap under the eyes, then draw a wide U smile from eye to eye.
Step 4: Two craters
Draw 2 round craters: a small one low on the left and a bigger one high on the right.
Tip Keep them near the edge, away from the face.
Step 5: Ice cap
Across the top of the planet, above the craters, draw a gently wavy line from edge to edge.
Tip Mars has a white ice cap at the top.
Step 6: Crater shadows
Inside each crater, draw a short curved line hugging its lower left side, so it looks like a dent.
Step 7: The sun
In the top-left corner, draw a small round sun, well away from the planet.
Step 8: Sun rays
Around the sun, draw 8 short straight rays pointing out, evenly spaced, a little way out from the edge.
Step 9: Stars
Around the planet, draw 3 small 5-point stars, one near each of the other corners.
Step 10: Rosy cheeks
Beside each end of the smile, colour a small pink oval for a rosy cheek.
Step 11: Yellow sun, grey craters
Colour the sun and the stars yellow. Colour the 2 craters grey.
Step 12: Orange planet, white cap
Colour the planet rusty orange around the cheeks and craters. Leave the ice cap and the eyes white. All done!
