How to Draw a Sunset
Draw a sunset in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: sea line.
Step 1: Sea line
Below the middle of your paper draw a long straight sea line from the left edge over to the right.
Step 2: Setting sun
On the sea line, start left of the middle. Draw a big rainbow like a grapefruit, down to the right.
Tip Only the top half shows: the bottom has dipped into the sea.
Step 3: Happy face
Draw 2 big eyes with a dot and shine, a U smile from eye to eye, and 2 oval cheeks.
Step 4: Five pointy rays
Around the top of the sun draw 5 pointy rays. Start on the curve, go out to a point, back.
Step 5: Sparkle lines
Between every 2 rays, a little way out from the sun, draw one short straight sparkle line.
Step 6: Waves
Under the sea line draw 3 short wavy lines: one left, one right, one lower in the middle.
Step 7: Sun shimmer
Under the sun draw 3 short straight lines across the water, one under the other, getting wider.
Step 8: A sailboat
On the left, low on the water, draw a little boat with 2 triangle sails, one tall, one small.
Step 9: Birds and cloud
In the sky on the right draw 2 little flying birds: flat M's. On the left draw a puffy cloud.
Step 10: Yellow rays, pink cheeks
Colour all 5 rays yellow and the 2 cheeks pink.
Step 11: Orange sun, red sails
Colour the sun orange, around the eyes and cheeks, and the sails red. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Blue sea
Colour the sea blue, down to the bottom edge, going around the boat. Go over your lines!
