How to Draw a Sunset Over Water
Draw a sunset over water in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: water line.
Step 1: Water line
Start at the left edge, just below the middle. Draw a long straight line and stop at the right edge.
Step 2: Setting sun
Start on the line, left of the middle. Draw a big rainbow for the sun and stop on the line.
Tip Only the top half shows. The rest has sunk behind the water.
Step 3: First glow band
Just under the sun, draw a long flat oval on the water, almost as wide as the sun.
Tip This is the sun shining on the water.
Step 4: Three more bands
Under it draw 3 more flat ovals with gaps between them. Make each one shorter than the last.
Tip Together they make an upside-down sun, broken up by the waves.
Step 5: Big cloud
High on the left, draw a cloud: a flat bottom line with 3 round bumps on top.
Step 6: Two more clouds
Draw a cloud the same way high on the right, and a small one near the top.
Tip Keep every cloud clear of the sun.
Step 7: Ripples
On each side of the bands, draw 2 short wavy lines: one near the top band, one beside the last.
Tip Keep the waves gentle, like a calm evening.
Step 8: Yellow sun
Colour the sun yellow. Colour all 4 glow bands under it yellow too.
Step 9: Pink clouds
Colour the 3 clouds pink, like clouds at the end of the day.
Step 10: Orange evening
Colour all the space above the line orange, around the sun and the clouds.
Step 11: Blue water
Colour the sea blue, around the yellow bands, down to the bottom edge. Go over your lines!
