How to Draw a Sunfish
Draw a sunfish in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: eye and tiny smile.
Step 1: Eye and tiny smile
Left of the middle, draw a huge round eye. Far to its left, draw a tiny half-circle smile.
Tip Fill the tiny smile in with your pencil.
Step 2: Big round body
Start in front of the smile. Draw a big rainbow over the eye, stopping past it. Draw the same underneath.
Tip Both curves start at one point and stop a hand apart on the right.
Step 3: Wavy back edge
Start a little right of the back's end. Draw 3 little bumps straight down to the belly's end.
Step 4: Tall top fin
From the back's end, draw a tall pointed fin leaning back, down to the wavy edge. Add 1 line inside.
Tip The fin grows straight out of the back: no line under it.
Step 5: Gill
A finger behind the eye, start below the back and draw a short C. Stop above the belly.
Step 6: Side fin
Behind the gill, draw a fat leaf lying flat and pointing at the tail. Add 2 short lines inside.
Step 7: Tall bottom fin
From the belly's end, draw a tall fin hanging down, back up to the wavy edge. Add 1 line inside.
Tip Its point floats clear of the sand.
Step 8: Bubbles
In front of the mouth draw 3 bubbles floating up: small, bigger, biggest.
Step 9: Sand and seaweed
Draw a wavy sand line along the bottom. Add 3 seaweed blades growing from the sand up to a point.
Step 10: Blue bubbles, sandy floor
Colour the bubbles light blue. Colour the floor under the sand line sandy, around the seaweed.
Step 11: Pink cheek, green seaweed
Colour a soft pink dot on the cheek. Colour the seaweed green.
Step 12: Grey fish, slate fin
Colour the fish grey around the cheek and side fin, leaving the eye white. Colour the side fin slate.
