How to Draw a Mastiff Puppy

Step 1: Big square head

Near the top, draw a big square head with soft round corners, wider than it is tall.

Tip A mastiff puppy has a big blocky head. Fill the top half of the page.

Step 2: Two folded ears

On each top corner of the head, draw 1 small ear folded over, hanging down beside the head.

Step 3: Two big eyes

A little above the middle of the head, draw 2 oval eyes wide apart. Add black dots with shines.

Step 4: Square muzzle

Under the eyes, draw a wide square muzzle with 2 soft jowls at the bottom. Add a big black nose.

Tip The muzzle is short and wide, with a dip in the middle of the bottom.

Step 5: Smile

Start under the nose. Draw a short line down, then a curve out to each side, and stop.

Step 6: Mask line

Start at the top left corner of the muzzle. Draw a big arch over both eyes to the right corner.

Tip This is the edge of the dark mask round the eyes.

Step 7: Forehead wrinkles

On the forehead above the mask, draw 3 short rainbow lines, one above the other.

Step 8: Chunky body

Start behind each cheek. Draw a round side curving out and down to the ground. Join with a flat bottom.

Tip The body is short and chunky, a little narrower than the head.

Step 9: Front legs

Under the chin, draw 2 thick legs down to the ground. Each one ends in a big round paw.

Tip Big paws show it is a puppy that will grow huge.

Step 10: Back paws

At each bottom corner, draw 1 big back paw like a hill, peeking out beside the front paw.

Step 11: Toes

On each of the 4 paws, draw 2 short toe lines up from the ground.

Step 12: Tail and ground

From the right hip, draw a short thick tail curving up. Draw a ground line under the paws.

Step 13: Fawn coat

Colour the coat light brown, around the mask and the ears. Leave the eyes white.

Step 14: Dark mask and ears

Colour the mask dark grey: the muzzle and round the eyes. Colour both ears dark grey too.

Tip Go round the black nose and keep the eyes white.
