How to Draw a Sugar Skull
Draw a sugar skull in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the skull.
Step 1: The skull
In the middle of your paper draw a big skull: a wide round dome, curving in to a narrower jaw.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Below the middle of the dome draw 2 big round eyes. Add big black dots with white specks.
Step 3: Flower eyes
Start just above each eye. Draw 8 little round petal bumps all the way round it, back to the start.
Step 4: Heart nose
Between and under the eyes draw a small upside-down heart, point up.
Step 5: A stitched smile
Under the nose draw a wide U smile from eye to eye. Draw 5 short lines across it like stitches.
Step 6: Forehead swirls
On the forehead draw 3 curly swirls: one curling left, one curling right, and a small one in the middle.
Step 7: Cheek dots and chin
Dot 3 little circles down each cheek beside the smile. Draw a little curve each side of the chin.
Step 8: A marigold on top
Draw a small circle top right on the head. Start above it, draw 7 petals round it, back to start.
Step 9: The ground
Draw a ground line under the chin from well left to well right.
Step 10: White and yellow
Go over your lines. Colour the skull and the eyes white, and the marigold middle yellow.
Step 11: Pink and orange
Colour the petals round the eyes pink, and the marigold orange around its yellow middle.
Step 12: Teal and purple
Colour the cheek dots teal and the heart nose purple. Your sugar skull is done!
