How to Draw a Fractal
Draw a fractal in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big triangle.
Step 1: Big triangle
Draw a big triangle: a point at the top, 2 slanted sides and a flat bottom. Make all sides equal.
Tip A fractal is one shape drawn again and again, smaller each time.
Step 2: Upside-down triangle
Find the middle of each side. Join the 3 middles with straight lines to make an upside-down triangle.
Step 3: Top corner
Now there are 3 corner triangles. In the top one, join the middles of its sides the same way.
Step 4: Two more corners
Do the same in the bottom left triangle and in the bottom right triangle.
Step 5: Tiny top triangles
The top corner now has 3 little pointing-up triangles. Draw a tiny upside-down triangle in each one.
Step 6: Tiny left triangles
Draw 3 tiny upside-down triangles in the bottom left corner, one in each little pointing-up triangle.
Step 7: Tiny right triangles
Draw 3 more in the bottom right corner. Now you have triangles inside triangles inside triangles!
Step 8: Sparkles
Draw 2 sparkle stars on each side of the top point, one big and one small.
Step 9: Yellow middle
Go over your lines. Colour the big upside-down triangle in the middle yellow, and the 4 sparkles too.
Step 10: Orange triangles
Colour the 3 middle-sized upside-down triangles orange.
Step 11: Red tiny triangles
Colour the 9 tiny upside-down triangles red.
Step 12: Teal triangles
The pointing-up triangles are still white. Colour them all teal. Your fractal is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a fractal, drawn by you.
