How to Draw a Sugar Cane Stalk

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a sugar cane stalk in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the tall stalk.

Print

  1. Step 1: The tall stalk

Left of the middle draw a tall stalk: 2 close lines from low on your paper up to near the top.

Tip Sugar cane is a giant grass like bamboo. The sweet juice is inside.

  2. Step 2: Tall stalk leaves

Draw 3 thin leaves up from the tall stalk's top, then 1 long drooping leaf off each side lower down.

  3. Step 3: A shorter stalk

To the right draw a thinner stalk leaning right: 2 lines from low on your paper up to the middle.

  4. Step 4: More leaves

Draw 3 thin leaves up from the shorter stalk's top, then 1 long leaf drooping off its right side.

  5. Step 5: Joints

Across the tall stalk draw 5 short curved ring lines from edge to edge, closer together near the top.

  6. Step 6: More joints

Draw 4 ring lines across the shorter stalk the same way.

  7. Step 7: Ground and grass

Draw the ground line from edge to edge through both stalk bottoms, and flick grass blades up beside them.

  8. Step 8: Pale joints

Go over your lines, then with a tan crayon colour a thin band at each joint.

  9. Step 9: Green leaves

    Colour all the leaves green.

  10. Step 10: Purple stalks

Colour both stalks purple, going around the pale bands, and your sugar cane is done!
