How to Draw a Submarine

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a submarine in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: seam and blunt nose.

Print

  1. Step 1: Seam and blunt nose

Left of the middle, draw a standing line. From its top, curve a fat nose left, stopping at its bottom.

Tip Leave lots of room behind the seam for the long body.

  2. Step 2: Long body

From the top of the seam, draw a long line right, stopping 2 nose-lengths away. Same below. Join the ends.

Tip A fat sausage lying down, a bit narrower at the tail.

  3. Step 3: Two tail fins

Start on the top line near the tail. Sweep a big leaf back, stopping on the tail corner. Same below.

  4. Step 4: Big porthole

In the middle of the nose, draw 1 big circle, more than half as tall as the body.

  5. Step 5: Friendly face

Draw 2 black eyes with sparkles in the porthole. From under the left eye, draw a smile to the right.

  6. Step 6: Tower

Start near the middle of the top line. Draw a little box up, across, then down to the top line.

  7. Step 7: Periscope

From the middle of the tower top, draw a fat pipe up, bending forward like an upside-down L.

  8. Step 8: Propeller

From the tail's middle, draw a short line. On its end, add a tall bow tie with a round knot.

  9. Step 9: Little portholes

Draw 2 small round portholes along the middle of the body: one behind the seam, one near the fins.

  10. Step 10: Waves and bubbles

Near the top of the paper, draw wave bumps from edge to edge. Add 3 bubbles by the nose.

Tip Keep the waves above the periscope so the submarine is under water.

  11. Step 11: Sky and yellow

Colour the portholes sky blue around the face. Colour the body, nose, tower and fins yellow around them.

  12. Step 12: Grey metal, blue sea

Colour the periscope and propeller knot grey. Colour the sea blue around the submarine and bubbles, down to the bottom.

  13. Step 13: Red propeller

Go over your lines. Colour the 2 propeller blades red.
