How to Draw a Strudel
Draw a strudel in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a plate.
Step 1: A plate
In the middle draw a long flat oval plate, nearly as wide as the page. Add a second oval inside.
Tip The plate comes first; the food sits inside the rim.
Step 2: The log
Start at the top right. Draw a long low pastry log round the left end. Stop at the bottom right.
Tip Leave the right end open for the cut end. A strudel is pastry rolled round apple.
Step 3: The cut end
Close the right end with an upright oval, touching the top and the bottom of the log.
Step 4: Apple inside
Inside the cut end draw a smaller oval for the apple, with a thin curl of pastry inside.
Tip Leave a thin ring of pastry round the apple.
Step 5: Vent cuts
Along the top of the log draw 3 short slanted cuts, spaced out.
Step 6: Sugar dust
Under the cuts draw a soft bumpy line from the cut end to the left end.
Tip The top above the line is icing sugar.
Step 7: A slice
In front on the right draw a slice lying flat: a low wide oval with a thin edge under it.
Step 8: Apple in the slice
In the slice draw a smaller flat oval for the apple, with a thin curl inside.
Step 9: The table
Draw a table line under the plate from far left to far right, just touching its bottom.
Step 10: Tan pastry
Go over your lines. Colour the pastry tan, around the apple. Leave the sugar white.
Step 11: Apple filling
Colour the apple in the cut end and in the slice ginger, a golden brown.
Step 12: Blue plate
Colour the plate sky blue, going around the strudel, and your strudel is done!
