How to Draw States of Matter
Draw states of matter in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: ice cube front.
Step 1: Ice cube front
On the left draw a square with soft corners. This is the front of a solid ice cube.
Tip Leave room beside it for 2 more things in the same row.
Step 2: Cube top
From the square's top corners draw 2 slanted lines up to the right. Join them with a flat line.
Step 3: Cube side
From the top's right corner draw a line straight down. Slant back to the square's bottom corner.
Step 4: Icy shine
On the front of the cube draw 2 slanted dashes near the top left, one short and one long.
Step 5: The glass
Draw a glass in the middle. Start top left, go down, across and up. Stop level with your start.
Step 6: Rim and water
Join the top ends with a flat oval. Lower down draw another flat oval from side to side.
Tip The second oval is the top of the water, the liquid.
Step 7: Kettle body
On the right draw a plump dome with a flat bottom, level with the cube and the glass.
Step 8: Lid and handle
Draw a round knob on top. Curve a lid line from side to side. Arch a thick handle over them.
Step 9: The spout
From low on the right side draw a fat spout curving up, flat at the tip, then back down.
Step 10: Steam
Just above the spout's tip draw 3 wavy lines rising up for steam. Make the middle one tallest.
Tip Steam is a gas: it floats up and away.
Step 11: Table line
Start near the left edge and draw a table line under all 3 things. Stop near the right edge.
Step 12: Light blue ice
Go over your lines. Colour the front and top of the ice cube light blue.
Step 13: Blue water
Colour the cube's side and the water in the glass blue. Leave the top of the glass white.
Step 14: Red kettle
Colour the kettle, its lid and its spout red. Colour the handle and the knob dark grey.
