How to Draw a Stained Glass Window
Draw a stained glass window in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the window arch.
Step 1: The window arch
Draw 2 tall upright lines. Join their tops with 2 curves that meet in a point, and close the bottom.
Tip Make both curves the same, so the point sits right in the middle.
Step 2: The glass edge
Just inside it, draw the same pointed arch again, a little smaller. The gap is the stone frame.
Step 3: The sill
Under the window, draw a long flat box for the sill, poking out a little on both sides.
Step 4: The diamond
In the middle of the glass, draw a big diamond with 4 straight lines, taller than it is wide.
Tip Put the top point under the arch point, and the side points level with each other.
Step 5: Round jewel
In the middle of the diamond, draw a circle for a round jewel.
Step 6: Four lead lines
From each point of the diamond, draw a straight line out to the edge of the glass.
Tip The dark lines in a stained glass window are strips of lead that hold the glass.
Step 7: Cross line
Start at the diamond's bottom point. Draw a flat line out to the glass edge on each side.
Step 8: Yellow and red
Colour the diamond yellow, around the jewel. Colour the jewel red.
Step 9: Green glass
Colour the 2 panes beside the bottom of the diamond green.
Step 10: Blue glass
Colour the 2 big panes under the arch blue.
Step 11: Purple glass
Colour the 2 panes along the bottom purple.
Step 12: Grey stone frame
Colour the frame and the sill grey, around the glass. Your stained glass window is done!
