How to Draw a Stained Glass Pattern
Draw a stained glass pattern in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big circle.
Step 1: The big circle
In the middle of your paper, draw one big circle. This is the outside of the round window.
Tip Draw round a plate or a bowl if you like.
Step 2: The glass edge
Just inside it, draw a second circle, a little smaller. The gap is the window frame.
Step 3: Flower middle
Right in the middle, draw a small circle for the middle of the flower.
Step 4: Four petals
Start on the small circle, draw a pointed petal, stop back on it. Draw 4: up, down, left, right.
Tip Each petal starts and stops on the small circle and is fattest in its middle.
Step 5: Four more petals
In each gap, start on the small circle, draw another petal and stop back on it: 8 petals.
Step 6: Ring round the flower
Draw a circle round the flower that just touches all 8 petal tips.
Step 7: Eight lead lines
From each petal tip, draw a straight line out to the edge of the glass.
Tip The dark lines in stained glass are strips of lead that hold the glass.
Step 8: Yellow middle
Colour the middle of the flower yellow.
Step 9: Red petals
Colour all 8 petals red.
Step 10: Green glass
Colour the 8 small pointed panes between the petals green.
Step 11: Blue glass
Colour every other big outer pane blue: 4 panes, with an empty pane between each.
Step 12: Purple glass
Colour the 4 empty outer panes purple.
Step 13: Grey frame
Colour the frame grey, around the glass. Your stained glass pattern is done!
