How to Draw a Poison Oak

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a poison oak in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the stem.

Print

  1. Step 1: The stem

From near the bottom of your paper draw a tall thin stem up to the middle, getting thinner.

  2. Step 2: Top leaf

On top of the stem draw a long leaf: 2 round bumps down each side and a round tip.

Tip The bumps make it look like a little oak leaf.

  3. Step 3: Two side leaves

Just under it draw 2 more bumpy leaves, one pointing left and one right. That makes 3.

Tip Leaves of three, let it be! Never touch real poison oak.

  4. Step 4: Left stalk and leaf

From partway up the stem draw a thin stalk out to the left. Put a bumpy leaf on its end.

  5. Step 5: Smaller side leaves

Where that leaf joins its stalk add 2 smaller bumpy leaves, one pointing up and one down.

  6. Step 6: Berry stalk

From the middle of the stem draw a thin stalk arching up and out to the right.

  7. Step 7: Pale berries

Under the end of that stalk draw 6 little round berries in a bunch: 3, then 2, then 1.

  8. Step 8: Tip lines

Across each of the 6 leaves draw a curved line, a little past the middle, to mark off the tip.

Tip The tips will be red: the leaves are turning.

  9. Step 9: Leaf veins

Start where each leaf joins its stalk. Draw a line along the middle, stopping just before the tip.

  10. Step 10: The ground

Start near the left edge. Draw a soft ground line under the stem, stopping near the right edge.

  11. Step 11: Cream berries, green leaves

Colour the 6 berries pale cream. Colour all 6 leaves green, up to the tip lines.

  12. Step 12: Red leaf tips

Colour the 6 leaf tips red. Poison oak leaves turn red at the ends.

  13. Step 13: Brown stem

Colour the stem and the 2 thin stalks brown. Go over your lines, and it is done!
