How to Draw a Spotted Owl
Draw a spotted owl in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top, draw a big round head, a little wider than tall. Keep it smooth, with no ear tufts.
Tip A spotted owl has a smooth round head.
Step 2: Face rings
Inside the head, draw 2 big circles side by side. They touch in the middle, like glasses.
Step 3: Dark eyes
In the middle of each ring, draw a round eye. Colour it black, leaving 2 white shines.
Tip Spotted owls have dark eyes, not yellow ones.
Step 4: Little beak
Where the rings touch, draw a small beak pointing down, round on top and pointed below.
Step 5: Plump body
Under the head, draw a plump egg body, a bit narrower than the head, with a round bottom.
Step 6: Folded wings
Start on each shoulder under the head. Draw a line bowing in, then down to the body's side.
Step 7: Chest bars
Between the wings, draw 4 gently sagging lines across the chest, from wing to wing.
Step 8: White spots
Draw 5 small circles across the forehead and 3 down each wing. These are the white spots.
Step 9: The branch
Start near the left edge. Draw a long branch under the owl, with a short twig near the right end.
Step 10: Gripping feet
Under the body, draw 2 feet on the branch, each with 3 round toes.
Step 11: Yellow beak, feet
Colour the beak and both feet yellow.
Step 12: Tan face, bars
Colour both face rings tan around the eyes. Colour the first, third and fifth chest stripes tan.
Tip Leave the stripes in between white.
Step 13: Brown owl
Go over your lines. Colour the head and wings brown around the white spots, and the branch light brown.
