How to Draw a Porcupine Baby
Draw a porcupine baby in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
On the left, draw a big round head with a short, blunt nose bump low on the left.
Tip Go extra big: a baby porcupine is mostly head.
Step 2: Nose, smile and eye
Draw a small black nose on the snout front. Add a short smile under it and 1 big eye behind.
Step 3: Ear and first quills
Draw a curve from the head top, ending over the body. Add 5 quills and an ear with an oval.
Step 4: Round back and tummy
Start where the curve stopped. Draw a big dome over the back, round the bottom, ending under the chin.
Tip The spiky coat is like a cape over a soft round body.
Step 5: Long quills
Start after the fifth quill. Zigzag 7 quills down the back, shorter near the bottom, stopping at the coat edge.
Step 6: Near legs
Start under the chin. Draw a short chunky leg down to a plump paw, back to the tummy. Same behind.
Tip Short legs! The front leg sits right under the head.
Step 7: Far legs
Behind each leg, start on the tummy and draw a line down to a small flat paw on the ground.
Step 8: Toes and ground
Give each near paw 2 short toe lines. Then draw a ground line under all 4 paws, edge to edge.
Step 9: Inner quills
Inside the coat, draw a row of 5 short quill lines following the dome, well inside the edge.
Step 10: Sandy quills
Colour all the long quills a light sandy colour so they stand out from the brown coat.
Step 11: Pink ear and cheek
Colour the inside of the ear pink and add a little pink cheek under the eye. Leave the eye white.
Step 12: Brown coat, tan face
Colour the coat and far legs brown. Colour the face, ear, tummy and near legs tan, around the pink.
