How to Draw a Bird on a Wire
Draw a bird on a wire in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top, draw a big round head with 3 soft low puffs on top at the back.
Tip Leave room on the right and underneath for the body.
Step 2: Stubby beak
Start on the head's front. Draw a short fat triangle beak and stop on the head. Add a mouth line.
Step 3: One big eye
Behind the beak, draw a big round eye. Fill it with a big black dot, leaving a white speck.
Step 4: Plump body
Start on the back of the head. Draw a plump egg body hanging under the head. Stop under the beak.
Tip The body is narrower than the head, so the head stays big.
Step 5: Fan tail
Start on the bottom. Draw a fan tail pointing down and back. Stop on the tummy. Add 2 feather lines.
Step 6: Folded wing
Start under the back of the head. Draw a teardrop wing along the back, ending at the tail.
Step 7: Front leg and toes
Start on the tummy. Draw a short skinny leg with 3 chubby toes curling down. Stop on the tummy.
Step 8: Back leg and toes
Start on the tummy, a thumb behind the first leg. Draw a second leg and toes. Stop on the tummy.
Step 9: Two poles
Near each side, draw a tall pole with a crossbar near the top. Draw the ground from side to side.
Step 10: Sagging wire
Start on the left crossbar. Draw a gently sagging wire behind the toes and stop on the right crossbar.
Tip The toes wrap over the wire, so the bird holds on tight.
Step 11: Cream chest
Colour the chest and tummy cream. Colour the poles and crossbars grey.
Step 12: Blue head, orange feet
Colour the head blue, leaving the eye white. Colour the beak, legs and toes orange.
Step 13: Navy wing and tail
Colour the wing and the fan tail navy. Go over your lines and your bird is done!
