How to Draw a Spotted Horse

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a spotted horse in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Long head

Near the top left draw a long sideways head: a big round cheek and a long nose pointing down.

Tip The nose end is rounder and smaller than the cheek end.

  2. Step 2: Eye and nose

Draw 1 big eye near the top of the cheek. Add a nostril and a smile on the nose end.

Tip Give the eye a black dot and a white shine. Only 1 eye: we see the side.

  3. Step 3: Ears and forelock

On top of the head draw 2 pointed ears. Add a forelock of 3 fat locks over the forehead.

Tip Rub out the head line inside the forelock.

  4. Step 4: Wavy mane

Start behind the ears. Draw a long curve down to the right, then come back up with fat wavy locks.

Tip The long curve is the top of the neck. Stop about halfway down your paper.

  5. Step 5: Chest and back

From under the jaw draw the chest curving forward. From the mane's end draw the back round the bottom.

Tip The chest is deep and pushes forward. The bottom is big and round.

  6. Step 6: Lifted front leg

Draw a ground line. From the chest draw a leg reaching forward, bent down to a hoof, then back.

Tip This leg is lifted, so its hoof hangs above the ground. Draw a line across the top of the hoof.

  7. Step 7: Tummy and back leg

From the front leg draw a round tummy. Then a thigh sloping back to a hoof, up to the bottom.

Tip The back leg pushes off behind the horse. Its hoof stands flat on the ground.

  8. Step 8: Two more legs

Under the tummy draw 2 more legs sloping towards each other, each with its hoof on the ground.

Tip Their tops hide behind the tummy.

  9. Step 9: Long tail

Start on the top of the bottom. Draw a long tail flowing down to a point, then back up.

Tip Thick where it grows from the bottom, pointed at the tip.

  10. Step 10: Blanket edge

Start on the middle of the back. Draw a wavy line down to the tummy.

Tip Behind this line is the white blanket, where the spots go.

  11. Step 11: Seven spots

Behind the wavy line draw 7 spots on the bottom and thigh. Make some big and some small.

Tip Keep every spot inside the body, away from the lines.

  12. Step 12: Brown and white

Colour the front half brown, from the ears to the front legs. Colour all 7 spots brown too.

Tip Leave the back half and the eye white. The mane, forelock, tail and hooves come next.

  13. Step 13: Black hair, grey hooves

Colour the 4 hooves dark grey. Colour the mane, forelock and tail black.
