How to Draw a Ball Python

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a ball python in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round head

Draw a big round head with soft cheeks. Leave the rest of the page for the body.

Tip The head is the biggest round thing here: make it big.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

Just below the middle of the head, draw 2 big oval eyes. Add a black dot and shine in each.

  3. Step 3: Smile and nostrils

Under the eyes, dot 2 tiny nostrils. Draw a wide happy smile low on the head, cheek to cheek.

  4. Step 4: Forked tongue

From the middle of the chin, draw a short fat tongue. Split the end into 2 little points.

  5. Step 5: Big coil

Draw a big thick ring round the head, leaving a gap at the bottom left.

Tip The snake winds round its own head, leaving a hole for the tongue.

  6. Step 6: Neck and tail

From the right cheek, loop the neck under the head into one end. Add a curved tail at the other.

  7. Step 7: The ground

Draw a long straight line under the ball, from the left edge to the right edge of the paper.

  8. Step 8: Blotches

Along the coiled body, draw a row of big wobbly blotches like puddles. Keep them off the edges.

  9. Step 9: Colour it tan

Colour the head and body tan, around the blotches. Leave the eyes white.

  10. Step 10: Brown blotches, red tongue

Colour every blotch brown and the tongue red. Your ball python is done!
