How to Draw a Salmon
Draw a salmon in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long slim body.
Step 1: Long slim body
From a pointy nose on the left, draw a low rainbow and a smile. Stop both at a thin neck.
Tip Keep the fish long and slim, nearly three times as long as it is tall.
Step 2: Eye and smile
Near the nose, high on the head, draw an eye with a pupil and shine. Add a small smile below.
Tip Leave a little space between the eye and the outline.
Step 3: Forked tail
Across the neck draw a short curve. From its ends draw 2 pointy lobes that meet in a dent.
Step 4: Back fins
Start mid-back, draw a small rounded fin and end on the back. Add a tiny fin near the tail.
Step 5: Gill
Behind the eye draw a curve bowing towards the tail, starting below the back and stopping above the belly.
Step 6: Side fin
Behind the gill, low down, draw a small leaf pointing at the tail. Add 2 short lines inside it.
Step 7: Side line
Start at the nose tip. Draw one long gentle line under the eye and across the gill to the tail.
Step 8: Spots
Above the side line draw 2 rows of 3 little spots. Add one spot on each tail lobe.
Tip Keep the spots clear of the lines.
Step 9: Bubbles
In front of the nose draw 3 bubbles floating up, small to big.
Step 10: Sand and seaweed
Draw a wavy sand line almost from edge to edge. Grow 3 wiggly seaweed blades up from it.
Step 11: Peach belly, grey fins
Colour the belly under the side line peach. Colour the tail and all 3 fins grey.
Step 12: Sandy floor, green seaweed
Colour the sand under the line sandy yellow, and the seaweed green.
Step 13: Dark back, black spots
Colour the back above the side line dark grey, and the spots black. Leave the eye white.
