How to Draw a Spinning Top

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a spinning top in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top.

Print

  1. Step 1: The top

Draw a spinning top: a knob, a stem, a fat belly, a point. Add a line across under the knob.

Tip Like an onion upside down.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

On the fat belly draw 2 big round eyes, with a big black dot and a white shine in each.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw 1 wide U smile from eye to eye. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.

  4. Step 4: Top stripe

Above the eyes draw a stripe across the belly: 2 curved lines from the left edge to the right edge.

  5. Step 5: Bottom stripe

Below the smile draw another stripe the same way: 2 curved lines from edge to edge.

  6. Step 6: The ground

Draw a straight ground line right across the paper that the point just touches.

  7. Step 7: Spin marks

Draw 2 short curved marks beside the point, above the ground, and 1 beside each side of the belly.

  8. Step 8: Sparkles

Draw a sparkle star up on each side, like a plus sign with curvy arms.

  9. Step 9: Yellow top and sparkles

Colour the top and sparkles yellow, around the stripes, knob and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.

  10. Step 10: Red stripes

    Colour the two stripes red.

  11. Step 11: Pink cheeks, blue knob

Colour the cheeks pink and the little knob blue. Go over your lines and your spinning top is done!
