How to Draw a Sphinx
Draw a sphinx in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top left draw a big soft egg head, full at the cheeks and narrower at the chin.
Step 2: The eyes
Below the middle of the head draw 2 big tall eyes with black dots and a little white shine.
Step 3: Nose and smile
Draw a tiny U nose. Start under the left eye and draw a wide smile across to the right eye.
Step 4: The headdress
Behind the head draw a bigger egg that flares past each cheek and hangs down in a long flap.
Tip Only draw the parts you can see outside the head.
Step 5: Gold band
Start on the left of the head above the eyes. Curve across, stopping on the right. Add another below.
Step 6: Stripes
On each flap draw 2 short straight lines across, one under the other, from edge to edge.
Step 7: Ground and back
Draw a ground line. From the right flap draw a long low back, round and down to the ground.
Step 8: Front legs
From under the left flap draw the chest down into 2 front legs along the ground, ending in mitten paws.
Step 9: Back leg and toes
From the back draw a curve down to a bun paw. Put 2 toes on it and the front paw.
Step 10: Tail and tuft
From the top of the rump draw a thin tail curving up, with a small soft tuft on the end.
Step 11: A pyramid
Right of the sphinx, start on the ground. Slant up to a sharp point and back down to the ground.
Step 12: Sand stone
Go over your lines, then colour the face, body, legs, paws and tail sand. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Yellow gold
Colour the gold band and the stripes on each flap yellow.
Step 14: Blue and brown
Colour the pyramid light brown and the headdress blue, around the gold. Your sphinx is done!
