How to Draw the Gherkin Building
Draw the Gherkin building in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the pickle shape.
Step 1: The pickle shape
In the middle draw a tall fat pickle standing up, bulging in the middle, with a rounded point on top.
Tip The Gherkin is a glass tower shaped like a fat pickle.
Step 2: The tip
Draw a small round dome over the very top point, with a flat bottom.
Step 3: The doors
At the bottom draw a box for the front doors with a line down the middle.
Step 4: Slanting lines one way
Draw 5 lines slanting up to the right across the tower, evenly spaced, edge to edge, all above the doors.
Step 5: Lines the other way
Now draw 5 lines slanting up to the left, crossing the first ones, to make a diamond pattern.
Step 6: Rings
Rule rings straight across the tower where the slanting lines meet its edges. Add short ones by the doors.
Step 7: Two neighbours
Draw a shorter box building on each side of the tower, level with its bottom and tucked behind it.
Step 8: Neighbour windows
Draw 3 tall windows in a row on each neighbour, and a second row of 3 on the left one.
Step 9: Ground and cloud
Draw the ground line across the bottom of the page, and a puffy cloud in the top left.
Step 10: Sky windows
Colour the neighbour windows sky blue, and leave the cloud white.
Step 11: Grey neighbours
Colour the 2 neighbour buildings grey around the windows, stopping at the tower's edge.
Step 12: Teal glass
Colour the tower teal around the doors and the dome, then colour them slate grey. Your Gherkin is done!
