How to Draw a South Carolina Flag

Step 1: The flag pole

On the left draw a tall thin pole from near the bottom to near the top.

Step 2: Ball on top

Put a small round ball on the very top of the pole.

Step 3: The waving flag

Start on the pole below the ball. Draw a wavy top edge, a straight right side, a wavy bottom edge.

Tip Make the bottom edge copy the wave of the top edge.

Step 4: The tree trunk

Draw a short trunk: start in the middle of the flag, go down, across, back up, and stop level.

Tip Make the trunk a little wider at the bottom.

Step 5: Left leaves

Start at the top left of the trunk. Draw 3 long pointed leaves: drooping, sideways, up. Stop above the trunk.

Tip Each leaf is thin where it starts, fat in the middle and pointed at the tip.

Step 6: Top leaf

Start where you stopped. Draw 1 pointed leaf straight up and back down. Stop just to the right.

Step 7: Right leaves

Start there. Draw 3 matching leaves on the right: up, sideways, drooping. Stop at the trunk.

Tip Now the palmetto tree has 7 leaves.

Step 8: A small C

By the top corner near the pole draw a small tilted C. Start at one tip, stop at the other.

Tip The gap of the C faces the corner.

Step 9: The crescent moon

Draw a second curve inside the C. Start at one tip and stop at the other tip.

Tip Make the moon fattest in the middle and pointed at both tips.

Step 10: Ground line

Draw a long flat ground line under the pole, from the left side to the right side.

Step 11: Yellow ball, grey pole

Colour the ball on top of the pole yellow and the pole grey.

Step 12: Dark blue flag

Colour the flag dark blue around the tree and the moon. Leave them white. Go over your lines.
