How to Draw the Solar System
Draw the solar system in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the round sun.
Step 1: The round sun
In the middle of your paper draw a small round sun, about as big as a golf ball.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Just below the middle of the circle draw 2 big eggy eyes. Colour a black dot in each.
Step 3: A big smile
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile from one eye to the other, with the ends turning up.
Step 4: Eight pointy rays
Start on the circle. Draw a pointy ray up and back down to the circle. Do 8 all round.
Step 5: First orbit ring
Round the sun draw a big circle, a finger past the ray tips. This is the first orbit ring.
Tip Go slowly. It does not have to be perfect.
Step 6: Two more rings
Draw 2 more circles outside the first, each a couple of fingers further out. Stay inside the paper edges.
Step 7: Two planets
Draw a small planet on the inside ring, up right, and a bigger one with land on the middle ring.
Step 8: A ringed planet
On the outside ring, down right, draw one more planet. Draw a tilted oval ring round its middle.
Step 9: Corner stars
Draw a little 5-point star near each corner of your paper, a finger in from the edges.
Step 10: Rosy cheeks
Colour 2 little pink cheeks under the eyes. Colour the 4 stars yellow.
Step 11: Yellow sun
Colour the sun yellow, around the eyes, smile and cheeks. Colour the 8 rays orange. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Blue Earth, green land
Colour the land blob green and the bigger planet blue around it.
Step 13: Red Mars
Colour the small planet red and the ringed planet orange. Your solar system is done!
