How to Draw the Sun
Draw the sun in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the round sun.
Step 1: The round sun
In the middle of your paper, draw a big round circle, as big as a grapefruit.
Tip The face goes on it, so make it big.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Below the middle of the circle, draw 2 big eyes one eye apart. Add a black dot and shine.
Step 3: A big smile
Under the eyes, draw a wide U smile from under the left eye across to under the right eye.
Step 4: Four pointy rays
Start on the circle. Draw a pointy ray out and back to the circle. Draw 4, like a plus sign.
Tip Each ray is about a third as tall as the sun is wide.
Step 5: Rays in the gaps
In each of the 4 gaps, draw one more ray, starting on the circle and coming back to it.
Step 6: Sparkle lines
In the 4 gaps next to the side rays, draw a short sparkle line pointing away from the sun.
Step 7: A little cloud
Low on the left, under the sun, draw a puffy cloud: 4 round bumps on top, 2 shallow bumps below.
Tip Keep the cloud clear of the rays.
Step 8: Another cloud
High on the right, above the sun, draw a smaller cloud: 3 round bumps on top, 2 shallow bumps below.
Step 9: Rosy cheeks
Go over your lines. Colour a rosy pink cheek under the outside of each eye.
Step 10: Yellow sun, orange rays
Colour the sun yellow, around the eyes and cheeks. Colour the rays orange. Leave the clouds white.
Tip Leave the eyes white.
