How to Draw a Soapbox Racer
Draw a soapbox racer in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big helmet.
Step 1: Big helmet
A little above the middle of your paper, draw a big round circle for the driver's helmet.
Tip Everything leans a little left: the cart is rolling downhill.
Step 2: Visor, eyes, smile
Inside the helmet, draw a wide rounded visor window. In it, draw 2 round eyes and a small smile.
Tip Leave a gap between the eyes, and keep the smile inside the visor.
Step 3: The wooden box
Under the helmet, draw a big slanted box leaning left, wider than tall. Add 2 plank lines across it.
Tip A soapbox racer is just a wooden crate on wheels.
Step 4: Body in the box
Start on the box top. Draw a rounded body up to the chin and back down to the box top.
Step 5: The nose plank
From the front of the box, draw a long thin plank sticking out downhill, lower than the box top.
Step 6: Arm and rope
From the shoulder, draw a bent arm and fist. Rule a rope from the plank up to the fist.
Tip The rope runs into the closed fist and stops there, like a rein.
Step 7: Number and flag
Draw a circle with a 7 on the box. From the back corner, draw a pole up to a flag.
Step 8: Two wheels
Under each end of the box, draw a wheel touching the box, with a small hub in the middle.
Tip Make both wheels the same size.
Step 9: The hill
Rule a long slanted hill line under both wheels, lower on the left.
Step 10: Grey hubs, peach fist
Colour the wheel hubs grey and the fist peach.
Step 11: Yellow flag, wood box
Colour the flag yellow, and the box and the nose plank wood brown.
Step 12: Helmet, shirt, wheels
Colour the helmet red around the visor, the shirt green and the wheels black around the hubs. All done!
