How to Draw a Flying Snowy Owl

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a flying snowy owl in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round head

Near the top, in the middle, draw a smooth round head, a little wider than tall.

Tip No ear tufts: a snowy owl's head is smooth.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

Across the middle of the head, draw 2 big circle eyes. Fill a black dot in each, leaving a shine.

  3. Step 3: Small beak

Under the gap between the eyes, draw a small teardrop beak with its point down.

  4. Step 4: Egg body

Under the head, draw a plump egg body, fatter at the bottom. Its top hides behind the head.

Tip The head sits on the body like a ball on an egg.

  5. Step 5: Wide wings

From each shoulder, draw a wing arching up and out to a round tip. Come back with 4 feather bumps.

Tip Each wing starts on the side of the body, below the head.

  6. Step 6: Feather lines

Inside each wing, draw 4 lines. Start each at a dip between the bumps and stop a little way up.

  7. Step 7: Fan tail

Under the body, draw a wide fan tail. Add 2 lines up from the bottom edge for the feathers.

Tip The tail grows out from behind the bottom of the body.

  8. Step 8: Tucked feet

At the bottom of the tummy, draw 2 little feet tucked up, each with 3 round toes.

  9. Step 9: Dark flecks

Draw 5 short dark flecks on each wing, like little dashes. Press hard to make them dark.

Tip Short dashes, well inside the wing.

  10. Step 10: Tummy flecks

On the tummy, draw 3 little dark flecks in a row, then 2 more below.

  11. Step 11: Yellow eyes

Colour the eyes bright yellow around the black dots.

  12. Step 12: Grey beak and feet

Go over your lines. Colour the beak and feet dark grey. Leave the owl snowy white.
