How to Draw a Billy Goat Gruff
Draw a billy goat gruff in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: humped bridge.
Step 1: Humped bridge
From low on the left draw a long hill over to the right. Under it draw a tall arch.
Tip The arch stops a little lower than the ends of the hill. Someone will hide under it.
Step 2: Goat's head
High above the right half of the bridge draw a soft egg head, a little wider at the top.
Tip Leave room above for the horns and below for the legs.
Step 3: Goat's face
Draw 2 oval eyes with black dots, a round snout poking out on the right, a nose and a smile.
Tip Rub out the head line inside the snout.
Step 4: Horns, ears, beard
From the top of the head draw 2 banana horns, back to the head. Add 2 ears and a beard.
Tip The horns curve backwards. The ears are leaf shapes. The beard hangs under the snout.
Step 5: Neck and back
Start on the head, under the left ear. Draw a long back and curl round the bottom. Stop halfway down.
Tip The line dips down the neck, then runs almost flat.
Step 6: Front leg
From under the chin draw the chest down to a hoof on the bridge, then up the leg's back.
Tip The leg gets thinner on the way down. A short line marks the top of the hoof.
Step 7: Tummy and back leg
From the front leg draw the tummy. Draw a back leg down to a hoof and up to the bottom.
Tip The back leg bends backwards above the hoof.
Step 8: Far legs and tail
From the tummy draw 2 more legs stepping forward, down to hooves. Add a short tail pointing up.
Tip All 4 hooves stand on the bridge.
Step 9: Stones and banks
Draw 4 small stones on the bridge. From each end of the bridge draw a bank down to the arch.
Step 10: The river
Start at the left edge. Draw a wavy river line through the arch. Stop at the right edge.
Step 11: Peeking troll
From the river draw a round head top, back to the river. Add 2 big eyes and a big nose.
Tip The eyes look up at the goat. Add 2 pointed ears and 3 hairs. Rub out the river line inside the nose.
Step 12: Pink noses, white goat
Colour the goat's nose and the troll's big nose pink. Leave the goat and the troll's eyes white.
Step 13: Grey bridge, dark horns
Colour the bridge light grey. Colour the 2 horns and the 4 hooves dark grey.
Step 14: Green and blue
Colour the troll and the 2 banks green, around the troll's eyes and nose. Colour the river blue.
