How to Draw a Smile

9 steps · Medium · about 7 min

Draw a smile in 9 easy steps, about 7 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big u.

Print

  1. Step 1: The big U

Across the middle of your paper draw a huge U: start on the left, swoop down, stop on the right.

Tip Make it really wide: a big laugh.

  2. Step 2: Close the top

Start at the left point. Draw a gentle curve bowing up across to the right point.

  3. Step 3: The teeth

Start inside the left corner. Draw a dipping curve across to the right corner. Add 5 short gap lines.

  4. Step 4: The tongue

Near the bottom, start on the U on the left. Draw a rounded bump over to the right side.

  5. Step 5: Bottom lip

Start at the left corner. Draw a bigger U a finger under the smile, back up to the right corner.

  6. Step 6: Top lip

Start at the left corner. Draw a soft wide M above the smile, down to the right corner.

  7. Step 7: Laugh lines

Just outside each corner of the mouth, draw a small curved line like a bracket. Do not touch the lips.

  8. Step 8: Pink tongue

    Colour the tongue pink.

  9. Step 9: Red lips, black mouth

Colour the lips red and around the tongue black. Leave the teeth white. Your big smile is done!
