How to Draw a Skid Steer

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a skid steer in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the cab.

Print

  1. Step 1: The cab

In the middle draw a box a little wider than tall, with soft top corners and square bottom corners.

Tip Leave room below for the wheels and in front for the bucket.

  2. Step 2: Flat roof

Start on the top right corner. Draw a flat slab poking out past both sides, stop at the top left.

  3. Step 3: The round face

On the right half of the box draw a big circle for the face, with air all around.

  4. Step 4: Big eyes and smile

Draw 2 big eyes in the circle. Start under the left eye, draw a U smile, stop under the right.

  5. Step 5: The caged window

Behind the face draw one tall window with round corners. Draw 2 straight lines down it for the cage bars.

Tip The driver sits inside a cage of bars.

  6. Step 6: Lift arm and bucket

Draw a hinge circle at the top back. Run a thick arm down, under the face, to a scoop bucket.

Tip The bucket has a flat bottom on the ground and a round back.

  7. Step 7: Exhaust pipe

Start on the roof near the back. Draw a short pipe up, over a wide cap, stop on the roof.

  8. Step 8: 2 big wheels

Start at the bottom left corner. Go down, along, and up to the bottom right. Add 2 big wheels.

  9. Step 9: The ground

Rule one long ground line under the wheels from edge to edge, just touching them.

  10. Step 10: Sky cage, pink cheeks

Colour the window sky blue, leaving the bars. Colour the cheeks pink and leave the face white.

  11. Step 11: Grey arm, orange body

Colour the arm, bucket and pipe grey, then the body and roof orange around the cage, face and arm.

  12. Step 12: Dark grey wheels

Go over your lines. Colour the base and wheels dark grey, leaving the hubs white.
