How to Draw an Excavator
Draw an excavator in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the cab.
Step 1: The cab
Left of the middle, draw a box a little wider than tall, with soft top corners and square bottom corners.
Tip Leave room below for the track and in front for the arm.
Step 2: Brim roof
From the top-right corner, draw a shallow rainbow roof that pokes out past both ends, ending at the top-left.
Tip The roof sticks out like a hat brim.
Step 3: Round face
Near the right wall, draw a big circle with a finger of space all round it. That's the face.
Step 4: Big eyes and smile
In the circle, draw 2 big round eyes with black dots. Add a wide U smile under them.
Step 5: Big window
Left of the face, draw a tall window with round corners, about as tall as the face.
Step 6: Digger arm
From a circle on the cab front, draw a thick arm up to an elbow, then a thinner arm down.
Tip The arm is 2 bars joined at a bent elbow, like your own arm.
Step 7: The bucket
On the arm's end, draw a curved bucket like a cupped hand. Add 3 teeth under its flat lip.
Step 8: Track and wheels
From the bottom-left corner, draw a long pill track under the cab, ending at the bottom-right corner. Add 4 wheels.
Tip The track sticks out past the cab at both ends.
Step 9: The ground
Draw 1 long ground line from side to side, touching the bottom of the track and the teeth.
Step 10: Pink cheeks, sky window
Colour 2 pink cheeks and the window sky blue. Leave the face and eyes white.
Step 11: Grey bucket, orange cab
Colour the bucket, teeth and arm circles grey. Colour the cab, roof and arm bars orange.
Tip Go around the window, face and arm circles.
Step 12: Dark grey track
Go over your lines. Colour the track and wheels dark grey, leaving the hubs white.
