How to Draw a Silkie Chicken
Draw a silkie chicken in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top, a little left of the middle, draw a big round head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave room above for the fluffy crest, and below for the body.
Step 2: Fluffy crest
Start on the head's front. Draw 6 soft bumps up and over the top, stopping on the back.
Tip Round bumps like a cloud, not spikes. This puff is what makes it a silkie.
Step 3: Beak, comb and wattle
Start on the head's front. Draw a short beak, stopping on the head. Add 2 bumps above, a wattle below.
Tip Keep the beak tiny. A silkie has a short, stubby beak.
Step 4: One big eye
Behind the beak, a finger back, draw a big round eye with a big black dot and a white shine.
Step 5: Fluffy body
Start under the back of the head. Draw soft bumps round a big ball body, stopping under the beak.
Tip As round as a ball. A silkie is all fluff.
Step 6: Fluffy tail
Start on top of the body's back end. Draw 5 soft bumps round to the back of the body.
Step 7: Fluffy wing
Start under the head. Curve down, then draw 4 soft bumps back along the bottom to the body's edge.
Step 8: Fluffy front leg
Under the front of the tummy draw a fluffy pom down to near the ground. Add 3 short toes below.
Tip Silkies have feathers all the way down their legs.
Step 9: Fluffy back leg
Draw the other fluffy pom and 3 toes the same way, a hand further back.
Step 10: Ground and grass
From the left edge, draw a ground line under the toes across to the right. Add a few grass tufts.
Step 11: Cream fluff
Colour the crest, head, body, tail and fluffy legs cream. Leave the eye white.
Tip Silkies come in white, black, grey and gold. Pick your favourite.
Step 12: Red comb and wattle
Colour the 2 round bumps above the beak red. Colour the wattle under the beak red too.
Step 13: Grey beak and toes
Colour the beak and the toes grey. Your silkie chicken is done!
