How to Draw a Sidewalk
Draw a sidewalk in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the horizon.
Step 1: The horizon
A little above the middle of your paper draw a long flat line from edge to edge.
Tip This is where the ground meets the sky.
Step 2: The sidewalk
Start on the flat line near the middle. Draw 2 lines fanning out, down to the bottom of the page.
Tip The sidewalk is thin far away and wide near you.
Step 3: Paving lines
Draw 6 flat lines across the sidewalk, from edge to edge, closer together as they go up.
Tip Far away slabs look smaller, so the lines bunch up.
Step 4: The kerb
Just right of the sidewalk draw one more line the same way, from the flat line down to the bottom.
Tip This thin strip is the kerb, the little step down to the road.
Step 5: The road
Right of the kerb draw one more line from the horizon down to the bottom. Add 3 shrinking dashes.
Tip The biggest dash is the nearest one.
Step 6: A lamp post
On the grass at the left draw a tall thin post standing on a little foot.
Tip Rub out the bit of horizon line inside the post.
Step 7: The lantern
On top of the post draw a flat tray, a glass box, a dome cap and a tiny ball.
Step 8: Flowers
Draw 4 little flowers on the grass, 2 each side, with 5 round petals and a middle.
Step 9: The sun
In the top right corner draw a round sun with 8 short rays around it.
Step 10: Yellow and orange
Go over your lines. Colour the sun, the lamp glass and the petals yellow. Colour the flower middles orange.
Step 11: Grey paving
Colour the sidewalk light grey. Press a bit harder to colour the thin kerb strip grey.
Step 12: Green grass
Colour the grass green on both sides, out to the paper's edges, around the flowers and lamp post.
Step 13: Dark road and lamp
Colour the road and the lamp post dark grey, around the white dashes. Your sidewalk is done!
