How to Draw a Weathervane

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a weathervane in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rooster's head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The rooster's head

Above the middle of your paper, on the left, draw a small egg lying on its side for the head.

  2. Step 2: A bumpy comb

Start at the front of the head. Draw a row of round bumps over the top, stopping at the back.

  3. Step 3: Beak and eye

Start on the head's front. Draw a pointy beak and stop back on the head. Add an eye behind it.

  4. Step 4: A dangly wattle

Behind the beak, start under the head. Draw a small raindrop hanging down and stop back on the head.

  5. Step 5: A big body

Start halfway up the head's back. Draw a big bean body with a round chest, ending at the tail.

  6. Step 6: A long wing

Start behind the neck. Draw a big fat C wing, stopping low on the chest. Add 3 feather bumps.

  7. Step 7: Big curly tail

From the back end sweep 5 long tail feathers up and over like a fountain, each curling to a point.

  8. Step 8: The arrow

Under the rooster draw a flat arrow: a thin bar, pointy head on the right, forked tail on the left.

  9. Step 9: Rod and roof peak

From the arrow's middle draw a thin rod down, stopping low. Under it draw a wide flat triangle roof.

  10. Step 10: West and East

Halfway down the rod draw a short bar across. Write W at the left end and E at the right.

  11. Step 11: Ginger body, yellow beak

Colour the beak yellow, then the head and body ginger around the wing and wattle. Leave the eye white.

  12. Step 12: Teal wing, black arrow

Colour the wing and tail teal, the comb, wattle and roof red, then the arrow black. Your weathervane is done!
