How to Draw a Sickle
Draw a sickle in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big hook.
Step 1: The big hook
Start on the right. Draw up, then a big round hook over the top, stopping low on the left.
Tip Make the hook as round as a ball. It ends in a sharp point.
Step 2: The inside curve
From the point draw a smaller curve back inside the hook, then join the two bottom ends.
Tip Keep the blade fat over the top and thin at the point.
Step 3: The handle
Under the blade draw a long handle down to a flat end, a little fatter near the bottom.
Step 4: The metal ring
Over the top of the handle draw a small box, a little wider than the handle.
Step 5: The sharp edge
Start on the ring. Draw one more curve inside the blade, close to the inside line. Stop at the point.
Step 6: Wood grain
On the handle draw 2 short lines, one down from the ring and one up from the bottom.
Step 7: The ground
Draw a straight ground line under the handle, from left to right.
Step 8: Hay tufts
On the ground draw 3 small hay tufts with 3 round blades each, 2 left and 1 right.
Step 9: Yellow hay
Go over your lines, then colour the hay and the metal ring yellow.
Step 10: Grey edge
Colour the thin sharp edge of the blade light grey.
Step 11: Wood handle
Colour the handle wood brown.
Step 12: Dark blade
Colour the rest of the blade dark grey. Your sickle is ready!
