How to Draw a Shrugging Person

Step 1: Head and ears

Near the top draw an egg head. Add a C ear on each side, starting and stopping on the head.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.

Step 2: The face

Draw 2 big eyes in the middle with dots and shines. Add a U nose, a smile and 2 eyebrows.

Step 3: Smooth hair

Start above the left ear. Draw hair over the top to above the right ear, then 2 curves back.

Tip The 2 curves meet in a little point above the nose.

Step 4: Neck and T-shirt

From the chin draw 2 neck lines down to the shoulders. Add a short-sleeved T-shirt with high shoulders.

Tip High shoulders, close to the ears, are what make a shrug.

Step 5: Top of the arms

Start at each sleeve's outer corner. Draw a line down a little, then out and up to the wrist.

Step 6: Bent elbows

Start at each sleeve's inner corner. Draw down to a round elbow, then out and up to the wrist.

Tip The arm gets a little thinner toward the wrist.

Step 7: Open hands

From the top of each wrist draw a flat open hand with a thumb on top. Stop under the wrist.

Tip Flat hands with the palms up say: I do not know!

Step 8: Trousers

From the T-shirt's left corner draw 2 long trouser legs with a gap between. Stop at the right corner.

Tip Each leg is nearly as wide at the ankle as at the knee.

Step 9: Shoes

Under each trouser leg draw a shoe with the toe pointing out. Add a curved line across each toe.

Step 10: Ground line

Start left of the shoes and draw a long ground line under both, stopping past the right shoe.

Step 11: Brown skin, pink cheeks

Colour 2 pink cheeks. Colour the face, ears, neck, arms and hands light brown. Leave the eyes white.

Step 12: Yellow shirt, red shoes

Colour the T-shirt yellow and the shoes red.

Step 13: Blue trousers, black hair

Colour the trousers blue and the hair black. Go over your lines and your shrugging person is done.
