How to Draw a Shepherd’s Pie
Draw a shepherd’s pie in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the dish rim.
Step 1: The dish rim
In the middle draw a wide flat oval for the top of the dish, wider than your hand.
Step 2: The dish
From the left end of the oval draw a short side down, across and up to the right end.
Tip Keep the sides short, like a baking dish, not a tall pot.
Step 3: Handles
At each end of the rim draw a small flat tab handle: start on the dish, round out and back.
Step 4: The mash
Start at the left end of the rim. Draw a big heap of little bumps over to the right end.
Tip Fluffy and lumpy, like a cloud on the dish.
Step 5: Fork marks
Draw 4 short curved fork marks on the mash, 2 on each side.
Step 6: The meat layer
Just below the rim draw a gently curved line across the dish, from the left side to the right side.
Step 7: Peas and carrots
Below the line draw 3 little round peas and 2 small squares of carrot, some high and some low.
Step 8: Steam
Above the mash draw 3 wiggly steam lines going up.
Step 9: The table
Draw a line under the dish from left to right, just touching its bottom.
Step 10: Cream mash
Go over your lines, then colour the mash and the top layer in the dish cream.
Step 11: Green peas, orange carrots
Colour the peas green and the carrot squares orange. Leave the handles white.
Step 12: Brown meat
Colour the meat layer brown around the peas and carrots, from the line down to the bottom of the dish.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a shepherd’s pie, drawn by you.
