How to Draw a Sewing Machine
Draw a sewing machine in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the base.
Step 1: The base
Near the bottom draw a long flat base box. Run a ground line under it, far left to far right.
Step 2: The machine
On the base draw a big upside-down L: a wide tall part on the right and an arm reaching left.
Tip Leave an open gap under the arm.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the tall part draw 2 big egg eyes, well inside its edges. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile, and a small flat oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Needle and foot
Start under the arm's left end. Draw a needle straight down, stopping above the base, with a tiny foot below.
Step 6: Hand wheel
On the right side, near the top, draw a round wheel poking out, with a small circle in its middle.
Step 7: Spool and thread
On the arm draw a spool with wide ends. Curve its thread over the arm's end to the needle.
Step 8: A dial
On the arm, left of the spool, draw a small round dial.
Step 9: Cloth
Under the foot draw a flat bumpy cloth lying on the base, with 3 stitch dashes on its left.
Step 10: Two sparkles
In the air on each side of the machine draw a small 4-point sparkle.
Step 11: Yellow cloth, pink cheeks
Go over your lines, then colour the cloth and sparkles yellow and the cheeks pink. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Sky and grey
Colour the machine sky blue around the eyes and cheeks, and the wheel, dial, foot and spool ends grey.
Step 13: Red spool, slate base
Colour the spool red and the base slate. Your sewing machine is ready to stitch!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a sewing machine, drawn by you.
