How to Draw a Seed Sprouting
Draw a seed sprouting in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the soil.
Step 1: The soil
Start at the left edge, below the middle. Draw a wavy line right across to the right edge.
Step 2: A sleeping seed
On the left, inside the soil, draw a fat sideways egg for a seed, tilted a bit.
Step 3: A splitting seed
In the middle, inside the soil, draw a bigger rounder seed with a wiggly line from top to bottom.
Step 4: Root and shoot
From the seed's bottom draw a little pointy root down. From its top draw a fat shoot up, curling right.
Step 5: The sprout's stem
On the right, start on the soil. Draw a stem straight up and stop above the middle of the paper.
Step 6: 2 big leaves
From the stem near its top draw a round leaf out left and back to it. Do the right too.
Step 7: Bud and roots
On the stem's top draw a tiny round bud. From the stem's bottom draw 3 pointy roots into the soil.
Step 8: A rain cloud
High in the middle draw a little bumpy cloud, with 3 fat raindrops falling under it.
Step 9: The sun
Draw a small round sun with 8 short rays in the top left corner.
Step 10: Cream roots, yellow sun
Go over your lines, then colour the roots cream and the sun yellow.
Step 11: Blue rain, tan seeds
Colour the raindrops sky blue and the 2 seeds tan.
Step 12: Green shoots, brown soil
Colour the shoot, stem, bud and leaves green, then the soil brown, around the seeds and roots. All done!
