How to Draw a Hollyhock
Draw a hollyhock in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: tall stalk.
Step 1: Tall stalk
Start at the bottom middle. Draw a very tall thin stalk of 2 lines, closed at the top.
Tip A hollyhock grows taller than a grown-up, so use the whole page.
Step 2: Bottom flower
Low on the stalk, a little to the left, draw a big flower: 5 round petals in a ring.
Tip Make it as wide as your fist. It covers the stalk.
Step 3: Second flower
Above it, a little to the right, draw another flower of 5 round petals, nearly as big.
Step 4: Three more flowers
Keep going up the stalk, left, right, left. Make each flower a little smaller than the one below.
Tip Each flower just tucks behind the one below it.
Step 5: Round middles
In the middle of every flower draw a small circle.
Step 6: Buds on top
Above the flowers draw 3 closed buds like little eggs: one right, one left, one on the tip.
Tip Buds are flowers that have not opened yet.
Step 7: Big leaves
From the bottom of the stalk draw a big fat leaf out to each side. Add a line down each.
Tip Keep the leaves low so they do not bump the bottom flower.
Step 8: Ground and grass
Draw a soft ground line across the bottom. Flick 2 little grass blades up at each end.
Step 9: Yellow middles
Go over your lines. Colour the 5 round middles yellow.
Step 10: Pink petals
Colour the petals of every flower pink, around the yellow middles.
Step 11: Green stalk and leaves
Colour the stalk, the 3 buds and both leaves leaf green, and your hollyhock is done!
