How to Draw a Sea Otter Floating

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a sea otter floating in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: wide head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Wide head

On the left, draw a big wide head with fat cheeks and a wide chin.

  2. Step 2: Ears and nose

Draw a small ear halfway down each side. Low on the face draw a wide oval with a black nose.

  3. Step 3: Eyes and smile

Draw 2 big round eyes above the oval. Under the nose draw a little w smile.

  4. Step 4: Whiskers

Start on the edge of the oval and draw 2 short whiskers out toward each cheek, stopping before the edge.

  5. Step 5: Water line

Draw a wavy water line from each edge of the paper to the head. Add 3 wave curls below.

  6. Step 6: Floating body

Start on the head above the right ear. Draw a big long hill and curve down into the water.

Tip The otter floats on its back, so this hill is its tummy.

  7. Step 7: Arm and paw

Draw an arm from under the ear up to a round paw. Rub out the tummy line inside the paw.

  8. Step 8: Clam shell

Behind the paw, draw a shell standing on the tummy: a rainbow of 5 bumps, then 2 lines down.

Tip Add 4 lines fanning up from the paw to the dips.

  9. Step 9: Webbed feet

At the end of the tummy, draw 2 paddle feet standing up in a V. Add 2 toe lines each.

Tip Each foot starts behind the tummy line and gets wider at the top.

  10. Step 10: Thick tail

Start at the end of the body. Draw a thick tail lying on the water to a round tip.

Tip Fat at the body, thin at the tip.

  11. Step 11: Cream and purple

Colour the nose oval cream. Colour the shell purple, around the paw.

  12. Step 12: Brown fur

Colour the otter brown, around the nose oval and the shell. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Blue water

Colour the water blue, around the chin, from the wavy line down to the bottom of the paper.
