How to Draw a Porpoise
Draw a porpoise in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: bean body.
Step 1: Bean body
Start at the tail. Draw a big bean round the blunt head and back. Stop just short of the start.
Tip Fattest behind the head, thin at the tail. The front is round, with no beak.
Step 2: Eye and smile
From the front of the head, draw a short smile curling up. Above its end, draw a big round eye.
Tip Leave a gap all round the eye and a white shine in the dot.
Step 3: Small triangle fin
In the middle of the back, draw a small triangle fin. Start and stop on the back line.
Tip Keep it low, shorter than the eye is wide. Rub out the back line under it.
Step 4: Flipper
Below and just behind the eye, draw a small paddle flipper growing from the belly, pointing back.
Tip Rub out the belly line inside the flipper.
Step 5: Tail fluke
From the top of the tail gap, draw a crescent fluke with a middle notch, stopping at the bottom.
Tip Both points lean back, like a slim moon on its side.
Step 6: Belly band
Start on the chin under the smile. Draw a long curve back above the belly, meeting it near the tail.
Tip The band passes above the flipper.
Step 7: Waves
Draw wave bumps across the paper at tummy height. Stop at the porpoise's lines and start again after.
Tip The porpoise swims in the sea, so its tummy and flipper sit in the water.
Step 8: Pale belly
Colour the belly under the band pale grey.
Step 9: Dark grey porpoise
Colour the head, back, fin, flipper and tail dark grey, around the pale belly. Leave the eye white.
Step 10: Blue sea
Go over your lines. Colour the sea blue down to the bottom of the paper, around the porpoise.
