How to Draw a Sandstorm
Draw a sandstorm in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the ground.
Step 1: The ground
Low on your paper draw a long straight ground line from the left side to the right side.
Step 2: The dune
Start on the ground at the left. Sweep up to a low round top, then back down to the ground.
Step 3: The ridge
From the top of the dune draw 1 curved line down its front, stopping before the ground.
Step 4: The dust cloud
Behind the dune draw a huge cloud of round puffs, up near the top and down to the ground.
Tip A sandstorm is a giant cloud of dust, taller than a house.
Step 5: Swirling dust
Inside the cloud draw 2 lines that start on the right and curl round at the left end.
Step 6: Flying sand
In front of the cloud draw 2 wind lines that curl at the left end, and 1 short streak up high.
Step 7: A cactus
On the left, in front of the dune, draw a tall cactus trunk with a round top.
Step 8: Arms and ribs
Give the cactus a curled arm each side, bending up to a round tip. Add 2 rib lines down it.
Step 9: The sun
In the top left corner draw a small round sun with 8 short rays.
Step 10: Yellow sun, sandy cloud
Go over your lines. Colour the sun yellow and the whole dust cloud a light sandy yellow.
Step 11: Tan dune, green cactus
Colour the dune tan and the cactus green. Your sandstorm is done!

Your finished drawing
