How to Draw a Mountain Sunset

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a mountain sunset in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: ground line.

Print

  1. Step 1: Ground line

Near the bottom of your paper draw a long straight ground line from the left over to the right.

  2. Step 2: Big peak

Left of the middle draw a tall pointy peak: a big upside-down V standing on the ground line.

Tip Make it tall: the point goes more than halfway up your paper.

  3. Step 3: Second peak

Start low on its right slope. Draw a second peak up to a point and down to the ground.

Tip This peak is a little lower than the first one.

  4. Step 4: Small peak

Start on the big peak's left slope. Draw a small peak up to a point and down to the ground.

  5. Step 5: Snow caps

Near the top of the 2 tall peaks draw a zigzag line from slope to slope for snow.

  6. Step 6: Setting sun

In the dip between the 2 tall peaks draw the round top of a big sun, from slope to slope.

Tip Only the top shows: the sun is sinking behind the mountains.

  7. Step 7: Sky stripes

Draw 2 long wavy lines across the sky: one just above the sun, one near the top.

Tip The lower line hides behind the tip of the big peak.

  8. Step 8: Tall pine tree

In front of the big peak draw a pine tree: a point, then 3 zigzag steps down each side.

Tip The tree stands on the ground line and gets wider at each step.

  9. Step 9: Two more pines

On the right draw 2 smaller pine trees the same way, standing on the ground line.

  10. Step 10: Yellow sun, orange glow

Colour the sun yellow. Colour the stripe around it orange, from the lower wavy line down to the peaks.

  11. Step 11: Pink and purple stripes

Colour the middle stripe pink, around the tip of the big peak. Colour the top stripe purple.

  12. Step 12: Green pines and grass

Colour the 3 pine trees green. Colour the ground under the line green too.

  13. Step 13: Dark blue mountains

Colour the mountains dark blue, around the pines. Leave the snow caps white. Go over your lines!
