10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a cumulonimbus in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: left side and top.

Print

  1. Step 1: Left side and top

Start low on the left. Draw bumps up a tall tower and across the flat top. Stop at the right.

Tip A cumulonimbus is a thundercloud as tall as a mountain.

  2. Step 2: Right side and bottom

Start at the top right end. Draw bumps down the right side and across the bottom. Stop where you began.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

In the middle of the tower draw 2 big round eyes with a shiny dot in each.

  4. Step 4: Soft brows

Draw a short curved brow over each eye.

  5. Step 5: Happy smile

Under the eyes, draw a curve for a happy smile.

  6. Step 6: Lightning bolt

Under the cloud draw a zigzag lightning bolt shooting down to a sharp point.

  7. Step 7: Slanting rain

Draw short slanting rain lines under the cloud, 3 on each side of the bolt.

  8. Step 8: More rain

Draw 4 more short rain lines lower down, 2 on each side.

  9. Step 9: Yellow bolt

Colour the lightning bolt bright yellow.

  10. Step 10: Dark cloud

Colour the whole cloud slate grey around the eyes. Leave the eyes white. Your cumulonimbus is done!
