How to Draw a Sea Urchin
Draw a sea urchin in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the round ball.
Step 1: The round ball
In the middle of your paper, a little low, draw a big round circle as big as a grapefruit.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Halfway down the ball draw 2 big eggy eyes, one eye apart. Colour a black dot in each.
Step 3: A big smile
A little below the eyes draw a wide U smile, from under the left eye across to the right eye.
Step 4: Four long spines
Start on top of the circle. Draw a thin spine up and back down to it. Repeat bottom, left, right.
Tip Like a plus sign. Each spine is about a third as long as the ball is wide.
Step 5: Spines in the gaps
In each gap draw 2 more spines the same size, each starting on the circle and coming back to it.
Tip 12 spines all round, like the numbers on a clock.
Step 6: Little spines between
Between every 2 long spines draw a short one: start on the circle, out to a point, and back.
Step 7: Bubbles
Up on the left draw 3 round bubbles floating up, smallest at the bottom and biggest at the top.
Step 8: Sand and seaweed
Draw a wavy sand line from edge to edge near the bottom. Add a tall pointy seaweed on each side.
Tip Each seaweed is a wobbly leaf standing on the sand.
Step 9: Rosy cheeks, sandy floor
Give the urchin 2 rosy pink cheeks under the eyes. Colour the floor under the sand line sandy.
Step 10: Blue bubbles, green seaweed
Colour the bubbles light blue and the seaweed green.
Step 11: Purple ball, navy spines
Colour the ball purple, going round the eyes, smile and cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Colour the spines navy.
Tip Go over your lines and your sea urchin is done!
